Why Stop Using Chemicals ---- 12 Steps to detox your lawn
Print out our brochure

We cherish our manicured green lawns and multi-hued gardens without giving much thought to the environmental costs. The fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides many of us use end up in the groundwater, streams and wetlands and, eventually, Long Island Sound. These noxious chemicals not only harm fish and wildlife; they pose a risk to our children, our pets, and ourselves!

We'd like to introduce you to another way, another vision of what an environmentally-responsible lawn and garden could be. The GreenScapes Action Project will be hosting the first annual GreenScapes Challenge. Our debut event was held at the Green Earth Fair celebration at Earthplace on Saturday, April 25.

We will continue to be at more events throughout the spring and summer. Visit our tables and tents and learn more about the Challenge, obtain our "GreenScaping" brochure and free soil testing kits, and information about lawncare providers and products that will help you transition your lawn and/or garden.

Sign up for the GreenScapes Challenge, committing to a more responsible path. If you're interested, we'll use "Before" and "After" photos of your lawn or garden to acknowledge your efforts in the fall. Challenge participants will also receive a lawn medallion declaring their commitment to environmental responsibility.

This summer, begin the process of moving away from the American icon of a manicured "green carpet" and towards a more natural, diverse landscape in keeping with our New England heritage. See you at the next environmental event!
